    Hello all,

I'm researching a man whose service record puts him in France with the BEF from 11 June 1940 for six days before being evacuated ... In 1936 he joined the 4/5 Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers (TA), and was embodied at the outbreak of war. As there is no transfer on his SR I'm presuming that he was in France with this battalion ...

    Can anyone tell me:

    a. if this is correct, or would it have been with a regular RSF Bn?

    b. where he might have been in France during this period?

Any pointers very much appreciated ....

    Cheers

Cheers Owen. That's really useful and I really appreciate the reply. I had a great uncle captured with the 51st Division at St Valery so very interesting to see how the events are linked.

Are there lists of what exact sub-units were in both divisions anywhere? That would save me a lot of time ...

Have you read through Cyril James' book about the 4/5th RSF?

"Born at the wrong time" available on amazon - he was a member of 4/5th and took part in the 2nd BEF in june.
might give you a few more bits of info.

    cheers

...that 'someone' has. I continue to be impressed by Drew's unselfish sharing of copy war diaries (particularly relating to 1940 !)
