I have now re-scanned the 36th Div. book. (I have also backed it up onto an external hard drive! Lost the lot 12 months ago.)

What part of the site is best to upload it to? Advice would be most wellcome.

It is sixty plus pages including photographs.

Spent last Friday afternoon at the IWM film archive. Looking at films of 36Div in Burma. The first reel we looked at was of 178 field Rgt. 366 battery and it was B troop moving a 3.7" howitzer into postition. Low and behold it included my wife's father Enoch. Can't wait until we get a copy on DVD, to show her.

I managed to track down James Fenton last year and had the pleasure of speaking to him. He was such a nice man and told me of his experiences in Burma and about his book and life.

    Hi everyone,
I am new to the site and am researching my fathers time in the army. He served in A Troop, 366 Battery,178 Fld Regt Royal Artillery between 1943-46.
I have learned quite a lot from letters to his brother that my mother ,thankfully, kept safe, along with numerous photos of his times overseas.
I've requested his service records (still pending) so if anyone has any information regarding his regiment (the places he visited include Bengal, Burma,
Batavia, Semerang, Ambarawa, Buitzenorg and Malaya) Also, any information on the Ghurka regiments ( for whom he had the highest regard)
that he would have fought alongside would be gratefully received.

    Regards Phil

Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. I have recommenced some research into my Grandad, Gnr 945947 PD Wright and I have noted him in the very bottom right hand corner of this picture.

The Battery was posted in Bournemouth from December 1940 and then left for Iceland on the 3rd June 1941 so I guess this photo was taken in between those times.

I had the chance to show this to my Gran today.
    Thank you

    Hi all,
I am a complete newcomer to this site.
My step-father (John Anthony Hoggarth - sadly long gone) served as an officer in 178 Field Regt RA in India, Burma and Java. We know that at some time he was in 366 Battery and at some time was a (not necessarily 366) battery commander.
Like many he talked very little about it except to say laughingly "when I was in India" which always brought great shouts of delight from us kids. He had two kukris and a Japanese sword as souvenirs.

Andy is obliging me with the Regimental diaries and I am reading James Fenton's book - but i just wonder if the name rings a bell with anyone.
