The 31st Field Regiment remained at Mersa Matruh until relieved by 1st Field Regiment, RA on 5 March 1940, when in returned to Egypt base. On 21 August 1940 the regiment left the RA Group and came under command of 4th Indian Infantry Division at Baggush to replace 4th Field Regiment, RA.
