I cannot find any mention on this site of 30th Field Regt, so I hope what I am doing is correct! As is well known, at least it seems so on 22nd Field Regt thread, Hugh Williamson wrote the book "The Fourth Division 1939-1945". Some years ago on googling for information about Hugh, I found that his full name was Hugh Albert Fordyce Williamson. From my godfather's journal, in March 1944, in Italy, one H.A.F. Williamson was 'A' Troop Leader of 104 Battery, 30th Field Regt. See attached. John
Hi John 30 Fd Regt's role in Greece in December 44 and January 1945 is explained here. 22nd Field Regiment RA Italy Hope this helps Gus
My grandfather was 30th Field Regiment RA, 112/117 Battery , Don Troop. Signed up April 1940. I have some war diaries I’m willing to share if you want. He was a cook
Thanks for the offer but I am not actually doing any research on my godfather. I made the above post simply because some people may not have known the fact that Hugh Williamson was in the regiment. As a matter of interest though, the diaries you have, are they your grandfather's personal diaries or do you mean the regiment's war diaries?
Sir Lionel Francis Phillips, Tp Comd B Tp was killed on 6 Jul 44 whilst serving with 30 Fd Regt RA. He is buried in Arezzo CWGC. Regards Frank
John. Anything about the Italian Campaign interests me. I saw his name and looked him up only to find that he was KIA. Regards Frank
John, Back to your opening post. There are three threads here when you search for "30 field regiment": 1) BEF Royal Artillery Regimental History Books 1939-1945 Drew asking if anyone has war diaries for every BEF RA unit in France 1940 2) Embarkation Card a small mention 3) My Fathers Service: RA small mention on a service record Change search to "30th Field Regiment": 4) 1st Army Timeline mention in Post 8 5) 244 / 78th LAA & 254 / 81st HAA mention in Post 25 Changed search shortening regiment, first to regmt nothing else and then regt found a 1940 grave Post 261: 244 / 78th LAA & 254 / 81st HAA I use "subject" + "ww2talk.com" when searching, except when using one word e.g. Beadle (which wasn't that unusual and too many to read through for a link to your target).
