I am researching a veteran who was with the 30th Evacuation Hospital from the time they were activated in July 1942 until he was discharged in December 1945. He was awarded an Army Good Conduct medal (AGC) while assigned to that unit. In October 1944 the hospital was attached to 8th Army (primarily X Corps). His uniform has the 8th Army patch on the left shoulder. I ordered from the NARA all of the records that they had on the 30th Evac Hospital (general orders, unit history, quarterly history, etc). In all of the documents I could find no general order or other record showing the unit awarding any Good Conduct Medal to any personnel. My question is, would an AGC medal have been issued by a higher level such as Army or Corps? There was probably many men assigned to the 30th Evac hospital who were awarded the AGC medal but it's not shown in their records. Any ideas?"
