Hi, Welcome to the forum. IMHO that abbreviation is likely for 3rd Training Battalion Royal Engineers. It would be the unit where a new recruit (after attending Primary Training and being selected for RE) would commence specialised Training. If you search internet there are a number of references to variously numbered RE Training Battalions. Have you got his full service record from MOD Glasgow? Steve
