Dear Tim, this is quite fantastic. I have never seen these documents previously. Many thanks for sharing them with me. Also the departure date of 4th April 1942 was also new to me. Many, many thanks. Happy Christmas

Sorry I missed the plane crash and Vernon's death. It is usual for the Index Card to have a red line through it when a FEPOW is deceased. I can only presume that this didn't happen with Vernon's as death occurred after release. I did know about the crash as one of the deceased listed as Gnr Cotterill was in fact Harry Cotterill the BQMS of 3Bty 6HAA.
I think your post has been extracted from Going Home From elsewhere the plane was Dakota KN593.

    Hi Tim,
I stumbled across this thread whilst researching the 35LAA and 6HAA at Singapore. Where are the Missing Personnel files? Do they hold much information?

On Ancestry, I discovered this record "3315812 Gnr Casey D 6HAA M" and this may be a record of my father in law in Singapore. I have been conducting research on him for many years with little result.

Patwalker what did you mean by "Your best bet is to try and acquire his service records from Historical Disclosures in Scotland." (taken from your reply to Mavis Williams 2 June 2018)

    Thanks
    Daisy

Daisy is it meant apply for his service records based in Glasgow
Get a copy of military service records

    I stand to be corrected

Service records finally came through this morning. He enlisted in HLI in April 1939, 4 days after his 17 birthday. Then he transferred to 3/6HAA. He was at Singapore and reported missing. He rejoined his unit in 4/42 in Ceylon before deserting for the final time.

That did not work and I have discovered it is too large to load so need to figure out how to divide the file
