    Hi Everyone

My father was a driver with the REME workshops of 94th HAA Regt RA in NA for 42-44.

From my research I believe a typical 3.7 inch HAA battery would be positioned similar to a paw print with 4 guns in a semi circle and a command trench to the rear.

War diearies have my father in a place called El-Kanabish at the time of the 2nd Battle of El Alamein.

I had a look at this place on Google Maps and to my amazement found this....

insert 30.767288,29.422519 into Google Maps/Goggle Earth/Bing Maps and zoom right in.

Can it realy be what I think it is after all these years?

    Regards

    Gus

    Hi

According to the diaries, the 94th HAA set up 2 sites in El-Kanabish on the 24th October 1942 after travelling up the Cairo to Alexandra road that morning from their previous position near RAF Amariya. They stayed there until called forward to Daba on the 4th Nov 1942.

I have scoured everwhere surrounding this feature looking for the second site, but without any luck. If it is the imprint of one of the sites I am absolutely amazed that its still visible, even moreso from space.

I know that a NZEF unit was assigned to 94th HAA. Did you notice the gun pit located at 30.46.35 N, 29.25.02 E? It looks to be of the right dimensions for a 155mm Howitzer. It would be interesting to explore the site in more detail and see what else has survived.
