I have this unit arriving in North Africa at Tobruk in June of 1941. How does that sit with you guys?
Sorry for the previous message. Cut and paste FAIL. Here is 2nd LAA Regiment. 2nd Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, R.A. RHQ, 1st, 5th, 6th Raised: 15 October 1940 at Aldershot The regiment was formed from three regular batteries. It was sent to Egypt in late 1940. In January 1941, 1st Battery was serving under 13th Light AA Regiment in Western Desert Force, 5th Battery was serving under 9th Heavy AA Regiment at Alexandria, and 6th Battery formed part of 74th Heavy AA Regiment in the Suez Canal area. 1st Battery moved to Tobruk Fortress in April 1941 and served there under 4th AA Brigade until relieved by 5th Battery in September 1941. 1st Battery then came under command of 2nd AA Brigade on the canal. In October 1941 the regiment joined 12th AA Brigade under 8th Army at the front and remained with it through the campaigns culminating in the withdrawal to El Alamein in July 1942. It then served under 2nd AA Brigade during the battle of El Alamein. It was located in the Benghazi area under 1st AA Brigade in January 1943 and under 2nd AA Brigade in Tripolitania in May 1943.
Very helpfull, I'm reasearching Gnr Gillibrand who is shown as missing, believed prisoner of war, in the Western Desert on the 8th April, 1941. His unit is given as 1 Light AA bty. Later he's confirmed as being a prisoner and hiss unit is given as 1/2 Light AA Regiment. From what you've written it looks like he was 1 Bty of the 2nd Light AA Regiment. Cheers
