Hi are these your diaries or a family members? My husbands Grandad served in this regiment, he became a sergeant major, but at what stage in his career we do not know. Take care
They are the regiments diaries held at the National Archives. Have you considered applying for his service records?
Hi Drew, Is it possible for me to get hold of a copy of this diary?, For some time now I've been researching the loss of my uncle (mums younger brother) He joined the army as an enlisted soldier in 1938, After basic training he was sent to serve with the 2nd Battalion the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment. My uncle was 5949888 L/cpl James Flynn of "A" coy, He fell on the 27th May 1940 during an action which earned him a Mention in Despatches, I know that he fell defending a pill box against an enemy that was using anti tank weapons against him and that's as far as I've got. A copy of the Battalion's diary would be of great help to me in locating the position/area of operations of "A" company on that day, Unfortunately I don't know what platoon he would have been assigned to, Also do you know of a starting point whereby I can obtain a copy of the M.I.D. citation?, Would it form part of the diary?. My regards to all, Stay safe. Jimmy.
I think you may find this interesting. Your man is not mentioned by name but I suspect this maybe him:
There is a hospital in Neuville en Ferrain right on the Belgian border-I'm not familiar with that area but I suspect some of the pill boxes may still be there.
Just found a map of A Coys position in the same CAB file I suspect the red circles are the Pill Boxes. Unfortunately I can't find his MiD citation.
