Hi Lookng for the War Diary entries for 2nd Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment for the following dates, please, Tuesday 21 May 1940 Wednesday 22 May 1940 Monday 27 May 1940 Thursday 27 June 1940 Many thanks, Graeme
Hi Graeme - I will update further later although I'm not sure I have a June diary for the battalion - they were in the UK then. In the meantime here's some info on what the battalion was doing on the 27th May: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/1940/24549-battle-massacre-wormhout-28th-may-1940-a.html
Hi Drew Yes, I thought the June date was a bit strange. He is Sergeant 5109865 Horace Edwin North, buried in Hollain Churchyard. Many thanks, Graeme
If Sgt North died in late June and is buried in France/Belgium it is most likely that he died of wounds after being captured.
No probs - I'm currently working through the 2 Warwicks 1940 Missing Men file incase he gets a mention.
Finished reading through the missing men file and he's not mentioned. I found the attached page in the back of the file that maybe of interest:
Having looked at the other casualties in the cemetery I think the most likely explanation is that either his date of death is wrong orhe was wounded during the fighting at Hollain and died sometime later of his wounds. Have you contacted CWGC to ask if they can confirm his date of death?
A young, 29 year old, relative of mine was killed on 28/29th May 1940. Not in the barn massacre. How can i get some idea of what was happening during that awful night? Have read a couple of books BUT.....

Hi Drew No not contacted CWGC. Looking at the dates, North sticks out like a sore thumb, all the other dates are 20/21 May 1940, he's the only June date. The date is the same on the UK Army RoH. Graeme
