Just found this above. It refers to my father Captain Lee. you will note in the article uploaded above that it includes copy of a Letter from Burgess to my mother. Its pretty amazing finding this site! The attached photo is of me, my son and Graham Rogers , in whose arms my father Jo Lee died!

    Adrian,
Welcome to the forum and thank you for taking the trouble to add to the story.
You might be interested in this thread which also mentions Jo and provides a bit more background:

    My great uncle

Edit: a bit more than a mention, as it turns out. And you're mentioned as well by the historian of Jo's old school!

  4. Adrian,

Thank you for joining the forum and welcome. The document you kindly attached describing your search is both fascinating and very moving. Your finding Graham Rogers is just fantastic!

Idler already pointed to you the thread which does contain much additional information about your father. It was started by the great niece of your father's Signaller John (Jack) Rogerson, who was fatally wounded beside and at the same time as your father. See Danny's post with the testimony of another member of your father's FOB team who was present then: My great uncle
Note: in post #49 of that same thread, reference is made to yet another thread regarding your father, but the link got broken during the last forum software change. Here is the updated link: Captain Jack Lee 14 Medium Regt RA D-Day+1

As you will note from all these threads, on D Day your father was the commanding officer of a FOB (Forward Observer Bombardment) team, not a BLO (which actually means Bombardment Liaison Officer, not Beach Liaison Officer), although it is entirely possible that he had also been trained as a BLO, since both did work together on the same job, i.e. calling naval bombarment in support of army troops, albeit at the opposite ends of the communication line. The FOB was on the front line with the land troops, while the BLO was on board the bombarding ship. See Sheldrake's excellent explanation here: D Day Hertfordshire Yeomanry

It also appears that your father was not in a Carrier, but in a half-track which had made the passage either in LCT(4) LTIN 339 or 342. See my post My great uncle in the thread linked by idler. Unfortunately I do not know the actual hull number of these craft.

The Landing Table mentions a M3A1 White 15 cwt 4x4 (usually known as a White Scout Car), but Lance Bombardier HYDE specifies a half-track several times, rather than a truck or scout car, so a half-track it must have been.

    Michel
[Edited 2 Nov 2017: LCT LTIN 342 carried FOB for 2 KSLI, not 2 WARWICK]

    Dear All
I have tried to put all together and tell the story of what happened to Jack Lee. This may be of interest to those that have contributed inform on the Lebisey attack. I have posted my summary of what I think happend on the Jack Lee thread
Captain Jack Lee 14 Medium Regt RA D-Day+1

I thank Michel Sabarly for editing a previous version and eliminating some speculation.

I wonder if somebody could point me in the right direction
My Uncle John J Wilkes (Service Number 5115460) died on Wednesday, June 7th 1944 in Normandy France. He is buried in BAYEUX WAR CEMETERY. I plan to pay my respects in June and also plan to attend the Royal Warwickshire Regiment - Lebisey Normandy Memorial The official Unveiling Ceremony if possible.
I understand 154 people died at the Battle of Lebisey Wood on June 7th 1944.
The family rumour is that he was shot by a sniper while on a stretcher being carried from the Field of Action. I understand it would be near impossible to substantiate that but is there anywhere I can locate the names of those that fell that day?

    Many thanks
    John Wilkes

    Many thanks, Owen.

As it seems the 2nd Battalion of The Royal Warwickshire was at Lebisey Wood that day and he is on their list of fatalities for that day I think we can assume that this is where he lost his life.

    Many thanks for your reply.

  11. Hi Will - this post is quite old now, but I wondered if you might still be monitoring this. I am researching the same period in search of details of a great uncle in the 2bn RWR, he landed on 6th June, but was killed 19th July.

Any details you might have would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Chris

  12. Hi - sorry to jump in late, do you happen to have access to the 2bn Royal Warwick’s casualty lists for July 44. I’m attempting to research a great uncle who dies of wounds 19th July. Cpl Charles Tweed.

    Thanks

    Chris
