Can anyone help please. I am trying to find out where 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment would have done their training in readiness for Arnhem. The person I am tracing was with the Army Catering Corps attached to the 2nd Batt.

    Hello wtid45
It helped a great deal and I am very grateful. Grantham tied in with a note on his Liberation Questionnaire regarding a lecture he attended about his understanding should he be captured. Now I just have to confirm what company he was with. As he was with the Catering Corps would you know whether I could assume he would be with HQ?

There is an Arnhem in Lincolnshire trail book which features many of the villages & towns where the men of the parachute regiment were based for several months before Arnhem. In our village Donington near Spalding Lincs the 1st Parachute Squadron Royal Engineers were billeted from December 43 till September 44 & there is still a parade & service on the last weekend of September. The guide includes information on many memorials in various churches, parks, village halls & large manor houses etc etc.

More clues! I have a lot of reading to do and hopefully it will become clearer. Thanks for the information. It is much appreciated. Hope the wait for his records doesn't turn out to be too long.
