    Hello all,
Wondering if any member holding a copy of History of the 7th Duke of Edinburgh’s Own Gurkha Rifles by JN McKay could favour me with a lookup of 2962 Nk. Manbahadur Limbu, MM. He was awarded the Military Medal during the Battle of Imphal:

Naik Manbahadur Limbu was in command of a section at the road block at Mile 33 on the Tiddim Road. On the night of 17th-18th May 1944 the enemy attacked in strength. Naik Manbahadur Limbu thereupon left his bunker and counter-attacked the enemy with grenades, killing seven. Himself wounded in the shoulder, he then went to one of the bunkers, took a Bren gun and firing from the hip killed a further five enemy, the remainder fleeing. (WO 373/39/265)

Wondering what, if anything, the regimental history says about this action.

    Kindest regards,
    W.

Manbahadur Limbu is not specifically mentioned in the regimental history, except in the list of recipients of the MM in the WW2. This is what the official history has to say about battles at Milestone 33 on the Tiddim Road

Grant's "Burma - the Turning Point" gives probably the best description of the whole operation but you can also look into this article...

    Operation "Ayo"

.. which is mostly using Grant as a main source with some additional info and also has some nice photos. Apart from this, the other options for finding more info are war diaries of 1/7th Gurkha Rifles and 48th Indian Brigade.
