    1st Guards Brigade, 6th Division, 13 Corps
2753247 War Substantive Warrant Officer II, Company Sergeant Major Thomas Wright BROWN, S Company, SCOTS GUARDS attached 2nd Battalion COLDSTREAM GUARDS

On 28th May, the Battalion were ordered to capture and hold the PICCOLO feature (6530).

The SCOTS GUARDS Company (attached to the Battalion) were directed on to the Western High point of the feature and gained their objective shortly before first light. Throughout the day the Company was subjected to heavy Artillery and Mortar fire, to sniping and attempted infiltration, and early in the day all the Officers in the Company were either killed or wounded and evacuated.

C.S.M. BROWN then took command of the Company and handled it with such outstanding skill that the feature was held in spite of determined and prolonged assault on it by the enemy and in consequence the Battalion was able to carry out its task of holding its objective. An Officer finally took over from C.S.M. BROWN at nightfall.

C.S.M. BROWNs personal bravery in walking about under constant fire, his coolness in action and his capability of making quick decisions at critical moments of the day were an inspiration to all ranks.

Signed Lieutenant-Colonel, Commanding 2nd Battalion COLDSTREAM GUARDS

    Granted an Immediate D.C.M.
