1st Guards Brigade, 6th British Armoured Division, 10 Corps
2734602 Sergeant Oliver Francis ABRAMS, 3rd Battalion WELSH GUARDS

    20th June 1944. Map Ref. 667950 Sheet 122/II, 1/50,000. ITALY.

This N.C.O. was a Platoon Sergeant during the Battalion attack on 20th June 1944.

During the No. 3 Company advance on to 'TULIP' (Map Ref 667950) the Platoon came under very heavy mortar and 88 mm fire. Sergeant ABRAMS got hold of a section and personally led them against a house (Map Ref 669949) which dominated the road and was supported by an enemy tank.

Working round to a flank under aimed Machine Gun fire he assaulted the house. He killed three Germans himself and took one prisoner; the house was taken.

He led his section forcefully and showed great personal bravery, being largely responsible for the Platoon's success in taking the objective.

    Granted an Immediate M.M.
