Very poignant to see Guardsman Crawford Weeding Skinner's headstone. My father and his 2 best friends spent their last few months in UK as Corporal instructors and he remembered training Skinner, who seemed so young / naive compared to others of same age. They met up again just before Skinner's platoon went into action. Dad hadn't realised until then that some of 'his trainees' had just come over as reinforcements. He told Skinner to keep his head down and stay safe. The circumstances of his death were related to Dad later by a friend of his who had been taken prisoner at the same time.
