The Western Gazette, 1 September 1944:
News has been received by his wife at 50 Queen Street, Yeovil, and by his parents Mr. and Mrs. W. Wimbridge 19 Kingston, that Guardsman Lionel Leslie Wimbridge (30), has died of wounds received this month. A builder’s clerk before the war he had lived in the town for 12 years. From an officer of the Regiment his wife has received a letter which states:- It is with the very deepest sympathy and sorrow that I learned today of the death in hospital of your husband, for whose recovery we had earnestly hoped and in which we had all believed, For myself I know that I have lost a true and loyal friend as have more here than I could number easily but for you I know well that his death must be a grief which no words of mine could alleviate. When I last saw him his one thought was to cause as little trouble and difficulty to others as possible and I know that this unselfish attitude characteristic of him remained till the end. It will be some consolation to you to know that he had the best of medical attention from the start….. .and was aided by all that medical service can provide.” A letter of sympathy has also been received from the Lieut.-Col. of the Regiment.
