    Bennett John – Guardsman 2701671 – Scots Guards 1st Battalion.

    John, born in 1913 in Ayrshire, son of John and Robina, of 33 Marshall Street, Wishaw. He married Mary, had four children, and resided at 124, Alexander Street, Wishaw. John was an electrician with the Burgh of Motherwell and Wishaw, prior to enlisting.

    Guardsman Bennett enlisted with the Scots Guards in June 1943. He took part in the Anzio landing and a fortnight later, on the 15th of February 1944, he was captured and made a prisoner of war. Guardsman Bennett was imprisoned in Stalag 11A and made good use of his electrical training as he was to made work 12 hours a day. He died of heart failure on the 4th of December 1944, whilst a prisoner of war.

    He never got to see his youngest daughter, Doris Ann, who was born in 1944.

    John is buried in Berlin 1939-1945 War Cemetery, Germany, 11.B.21.
