Hi, I have a NOK slip to the soldier above, so far I have been unable to trace a date of death, he is not on the CWGC site and the 5 medals he was awarded are not annotated on the slip ( I am in the process of sending an enquiry to the MOD). It is possible he did after the war and was deceased when the NOK claimed his medals? Perhaps after the 1947 cut off date? Any ideas? Cheers, Rick
Hi, no other information, I am at a complete loss as to who he was and when he died... I've tried all the usual resources, including papers but nothing is available... Rick
Hi The service number is right for the RASC. Nothing found in Search the whole archive - RLC Digital Archive Hope this helps Gus
Hi, update - received a letter from the MOD medal office, he is entitled to the 1939/45, Africa & Italy stars, Defence & War medals (issued in July 1949), christian name Alfred, my initial research with this name throws up an Alfred Leslie, born Nov 1905, died Oct 1947 (after the WW2 CWGC cut off date) so this could be the man, unless there are any other Alfred Leslie's who died between 1947 and 1949? Cheers, Rick
Hi Rick, Trying to add a bit of detail on the 1905 Alfred Leslie you are tracing: The 1939 Register has Alfred Leslie born on 18 Nov 1905, living in Bolton as a Master Painter. Whilst his wife's details have been redacted, his son James is listed as being born on 11 Aug 1932. Further search of James's mother shows her maiden name as Haslam.
