CAMINO, Point 819, 7th November - 10th November 1943 1. This Section Commander found himself under Machine Gun fire from five different directions at once. By his excellent control of the section two of these were rapidly silenced but three of his men were hit. Under heavy fire from the remaining Machine Guns he went to their aid and by his immediate attention was responsible for saving the lives of two. These he subsequently helped down the hill and returned bringing with him on his own initiative reinforcements. 2. Later on the same day while his Section was held down to the ground with fire he found his men running short of ammunition. In spite of being wounded himself he crawled round four section posts collecting ammunition from casualties and delivering it to his men before consenting to to back and get his own wound dressed. His great leadership, gallantry and outstanding courage were undoubtedly the cause of his men remaining in an extremely difficult position. Signed Lieutenant-Colonel, Commanding 6th Battalion GRENADIER GUARDS Granted an Immediate M.M.
