Recaptured evening of same day by German road patrol my companions also retaken. Reasonably fit although shot of food.

8. Have you any other matter of any kind you wish to bring to notice?
Whilst working in Bitterfeld PAUL THIEME of NIEMECK regularly gave us the B.B.C. news & supplied us with maps for escape purposes.
DR. ERNST THOMAS of BREHNER STRASSE, BITTERFELD, our employer enforced upon us, a system of 'piece work'. This 'piece work' amounted to 80% of a German's output in peacetime. If a party had not done this amount of work at finishing time, they were kept in the factory until such time as it was completed. One party were working 14 & 15 hours a day, seven ays a week for roughly three weeks.
We were forced to work through Air Raids until such time as the bombers were overhead. On the two occasions that the town was bombed the factory signal was not given until after the bombs had exploded. THOMAS was helped considerably by Unter Offizier HEINZ KNUEPPER of DELITZ-SAXONY, who later bayoneted TPR GREEN of the RECCE CORPS and beat PTE. CUNNINGHAM of the D.L.I.
