It is today, the 11th day of the 11th month, that I would like to give thanks, to all those who bravely and honourably fought so that we could have a better life. To the men and women who did not come back, and for those that were fortunate enough to make it through. I thank you all for the sacrifices that you made for us.

Tom, Brian, Ron, Gerry and all our veteran forum members - THANK YOU. You are an inspiration to us all and I am proud to know you.

    Wendy

    Well said Wendy

I'll gladly second that motion and many thanks to our vets!

To your kind words I would like to add my thanks to all the Veterans of all the conflicts past and present. The men and women who fought in ww2 are from the ultimate generation. They gave reluctantly, yet, they gave because they believed in a righteous cause to rid the world of a never before seen tyranny.

It is the VETERAN, not the preacher,
Who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the VETERAN, not the reporter,
Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the VETERAN, not the poet,
Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer,
Who has given us freedom to assemble.
It is the VETERAN , not the lawyer,
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the VETERAN, not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.

    It is the VETERAN,
    Who salutes the Flag,

    It is the VETERAN ,
    Who serves under the Flag,

Capt Bill wanderin off at a tangent

You've done your time in Hell...

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
    "Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
    "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
    Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
    And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
    That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
    And sometimes, God, forgive me,
    I've wept unmanly tears.
    I know I don't deserve a place,
    Among the people here.
    They never wanted me around,
    Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
    It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
    As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgement of his God.
    "Step forward now, you soldier,
    You've borne your burdens well.
    Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

for those whom have left us behind
    we will remember them
