    Hello,

Could anyone help me with any information on the Unit my father served with from D Day until December 1945, it was 25 Base Signals Section, Royal Signals.

He was a despatch rider and went ashore at Gold Beach on 6th June 1944, unfortunately the Royal Signals Museum or the National Archives in Kew cannot shed any light on it.

    Many thanks,

Hi jock0313 and welcome to the forum.

I'm not sure if this helps, but there was a 25 BDS (RAF) - 25 base defence sector - which had various radar and wireless units, including signals (I think No. 12 Air Formation Signals), which I think was Royal Corp of Signals but attached to the RAF. They get a mention in connection with this thread of mine - http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/28600-raf-radar-units-in-the-battle-of-the-bulge/ - see post #13 in particular.

Let me know if any of this helps.

Cheers and good luck with your hunt for information.

Ian, sorry for the very late delay in responding, thanks very much for your information, unfortunately I don't believe he was ever attached to the RAF, it certainly isn't mentioned in his Army Record.

Can you give me any pointers to where I might find out any information? I'm somewhat surprised that the Royal Signals museum and Kew can't shed any light on his unit.

    Many thanks,
    David.

    Hi David
Can you post scans of the army records you have for your father? I can't find any records in the National Archives catalogue for a base signals section other than for 24 base signals section - 24 Bse. Sig. Sec. | The National Archives - WO171/5995. But the dates don't look right (or the number, obviously).

There were "beach" signals sections - WO171/5996 to 6000 - but no No. 25 listed.

    Cheers, Ian

    Ian,

Sorry for the late reply, I too found 24 Base Sig Section but not 25 Base Sig Section, I have now posted part of his record which also states that he was in North West Europe from 2/6/44, obviously a mistake.
Can you point me in the right direction to find any information on one of the Motorcycles he rode, according to his record he was fined in 1944 whilst on C542776.

    Many thanks,
    David.

    Ian,

I too found 24 Base Sig Section, but no mention of 25 Base Sig Section. I have uploaded part of his record (due to size restrictions) which details some of his postings etc, it also states that he was in NWE from 2/6/44, obviously a mistake.

    Best regards,
    David.
