    Hi,
I am trying to research the cause of death for a Gunner D E Lewis of 24 Mobile LAA Regt RA who died on the 21st Feb 1944 and is buried in Wales. I am looking to find out if he died of wounds, due to an accident or natural causes.

Does anybody have access to the war diary or know where i could find out this info?

    Cheers,
    Rick

Hi. This is my uncle. We’re also trying to piece his military history together. Any info would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for this info. We’re trying to understand how he died and where. We believe he was posted to India in 1942. So not sure how he ended up being buried at home. Unfortunately we never asked our mother..

24 LAA Regt was indeed posted to India in 1942, but the Graves Registration Report Form above shows that he was actually with 24 Mobile LAA TRAINING Regiment. The printed CWGC record is therefore incorrect, and perhaps this was where the confusion arose.

Thank you. So does that mean he didn’t go to India? If not, any clues as to where he served ? His cause of death is still unknown to us.

I have a photo of my uncle Emlyn. No idea where or when. He’s the guy on the right.

Rick. Can I ask why you’re also looking for his details. Are you a relative as well? My mum was his sister. Lilian (Jenny) Lewis. 5B058114-5338-4FFF-BAF6-00A02B5C7147.jpeg

The above photograph is certainly pre-war, and the cap badge shows him to be a member of the Manchester Regiment. That tallies nicely with his service number; Manchester Regiment rather than Royal Artillery.

You really need to request his service records; they should answer most of your questions.
