Where in UK are you going to be and is there something specific here I can help you with?

That sounds like a great trip (very jealous) and make sure you have plenty of memory cards for your camera.

Ref Hong Kong I would have a look at the CWGC cemetery on the hillside. There's a few George Cross holders buried in there that were PoW's and were beheaded by the Japanese (If you could photograph their headstones I would be mucho grateful). I'll dig out the info if you are interested in going there.

Ref Crete there is a Aussie member who is quite switched on to what happened there. I think his name on here is Spider. May be worth sending him a PM as he hasn't posted for a while.

Ref Galipoli I would ask Paul Reed - I think he has been there and may have a bit of a guide on his website.

Ref UK there is only really the National Archives unless you want to visit some WW2 related museums etc which will depend on where you are staying in the UK :)

    Cheers for now

WG, I am reading up on Crete at the moment and working with an Aussie archaeologist on some LCT wrecks there. Let me know if I can be of any help. Suda (Souda) Bay area seems to be the main hub of activity there.

    Whiskeygolf-
IF you have the time when in Rome - I would start at the Sangro River battlefield and Cemetery where the Kiwi's had a very bad time of it - then on through Campobasso - Presenzano and on to Cassino - that way you will follow the Kiwi's footsteps paying particular attention to the Station at Cassino - or at least where it used to be - now the main Cemetery - as that is where the 28th Maori Bde had a very very bad time of it !
so long ago but not to be forgotten......you might need lots of Kleenex !

You might not have the time to have a look at Rimini - Gemmano - Croce - San Martino and surroundings which was the Gothic Line.

    Whiskeygolf -
just re -read your plans to visit Wolfsberg - I would then recommend a train trip from Rome -via Rimini - on to Villach and from there to Wolfsberg.....
    easy one.....

    Wendy -
trust that you know that Rome in August is virtualy empty apart from Tourists - and that the monsoons in the Northern areas start in the middle of September - and you can now fly from Klagenfurt to London- or use the railpass-it's very handy.....

it'll be great trip - enjoy
    Cheers

    Wendy-
Here is the link for the Europerail pass system - it works and is really cheaper than trying to do it a bit at a time - apply it to your Itinerary - decide how many days you need - and standard -and away you go - I use Britrail when I visit the Uk - makes a big difference to costs etc - in May of this year I used it from Weymouth - London - London - Stockton on Tees - back down to Stafford - then Wolverhampton - London - four days - around 55GBP's per trip - 1st class - great service !

hour and half drive - but where do you leave the car - I usually get a cab from here to Vancouver - way cheaper than leaving it in car park at the airport - same on the way home....we celebrated my wife's birthday at Auckland Airport - by the time we got to Hawaii it had to be celebrated again !!!! - next day but same date ! it's a long way to anywhere from there.....
    Cheers
