    201st Guards Brigade, 5th Division, 10 Corps
233183 War Substantive Lieutenant A.S. FRASER, The Master of SALTOUN, 6th Battalion GRENADIER GUARDS

    TRIMONSOULI, 29th January / 30th January 1944

This Officer showed outstanding gallantry and leadership during a night attack on the above-named feature.

The night was extremely dark making control nearly impossible and the Sector given to this Platoon was held by spandaus in well dug and camouflaged positions. In spite of the heavy fire from these, this Officer ordered his Platoon to do a bayonet charge and personally led them into the position. He himself was responsible for bayonetting two Germans and his Platoon inspired by his conduct and example succeeded in establishing themselves on their objective.

Also during this attack this Officer singly attacked 3 spandaus which were holding up the advance of his Platoon and succeeded in silencing one with grenades, thus making the situation easier for his Platoon to complete their attack.

Signed Lieutenant-Colonel, Commanding 6th Battalion GRENADIER GUARDS

    Granted an Immediate M.C.
