    Chris -
don't know too much about the geography of Norfolk but in 1941 - just as my regiment was forming around Heveningham and taking delivery of Churchill Tanks we held many exercises with various Infantry Brigades - such as 168- 163- 198 - and the London Irish Rifles at places such as Walton on Naze - Westleton Heath and Marlesford - which I suspect were around Norfolk somewhere and would indicate that an Infantry Cadre was close for ongoing advanced training - before we set off for New Cumnock in Ayrshire for the big stuff - then on to North Africa...
    Cheers

Woah.!!!! Westleton and Marlesford in NORFOLK.!!!! Never. They are Suffolk villages and proud of it. Walton-on Naze is Essex. I have or had a photo somewhere of Armoured div/brigades at St Felix school Southwold. I'll try and find it. Tried a quick search on IWM site for sherringham. Only photo I found was of soldiers on the beach behind the wire. Dated July 1941.

Ah but Norfolk people are webfooted, six fingered, Joined at the hip, interbred, just kidding, I better duck now. Thats why Sizewell Suffolk has the Nuclear reactor, if anything went wrong with it and it was built in Norfolk, no one would ever know there was a radiation leak. Still kidding.!!!

Ah Chris as us old norfolk boys are a bit thick (according to 51highland) could you explain a bit more about what information you are actually looking for?
What was 21st infantry carde Sherringham.

The only training grounds nr Sheringham Norfolk, that I can think of are Kelling and Salthouse heaths just to the west of Sheringham and inland from Weybourne camp which was a AA training camp. Now Muckleburgh tank museum. With a bit more information about what I'm looking for, I might be able to dig something up with my webbed feet.

Well, it's not 21st Infantry Training Centre, that was the wrong side of the country - in fact, another country - at Brecon.

The 'carde' I would translate as cadre. The mystery is the 21st Infantry what: brigade?

Hold on: could your source actually say 2 ITC? No.2 Infantry Training Centre was at Norwich, so training may well have been carried out in the Sheringham area (avoiding the need for translators, passports and oxygen for high altitudes had they gone out of the county ;) )

No.2 ITC served the Royal Norfolk and Northamptonshire Regiments.

And before I get flamed, I did a tour in Nam...

    Gents,

    All that is written is;

    21st ITC (SWB) 1.5.1943
    P/A 18 Welch 21 ITC 25/5/1943
    To Min Carde 24/03/1944
    To 2/5 Min Carde 10.10.1944

I took ITC as Infantry Training Carde.

sorry gents, I have no idea how the silly face got there, but it won't come off, it should read SWB

That tallies: 21 ITC at Brecon served the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, South Wales Borderers and Welch Regiment. Brecon was the SWB depot.

Can't think what 'Min Carde' is. The 2/5 looks like Territorial numbering. Any chance you can scan and post the page, Chris, to see if we can come up with some alternatives?

OK, The Welch Regiment had battalions numbered 2/5 and 18, both of which remained in the UK through 1944.
