Living so close to the border of the great US of A - I once queried the fact that they actually won the ww2 singlehandely - and I was assured that there was two of them - bit like Drew's tale about the 1000 Taliban

 What tale is that

    Hi

I think they ought to keep Nigger! As much in tribute to Gibson as the dog himself. If anyone will make a good fist of it its Mr Jackson.... It wont have the atmosphere of the original but so long as they stay true to the story (plus the later information that history has found) then I want to see it....

Maybe it's just me - but in a film that should be crowded ENOUGH as it is....would it really be THAT impossible to have a dog in it - just not ever have it named???

What's it going to do, fly a Lancaster??? No. it's going to be running around the male lead's legs once or twice, for god's sake!

Nope, it doesn't fly a lanc, it gets run over before the mission... A bad omen and all that....

Like the Roadking, I am not convinced that the absence of Wg Cdr Gibson's dog's name would have any adverse effect on any film about 617 Sqn. However, the inclusion of it could cause enough publicity to detract from it.

Have we heard anymore about how the filming of this is going? Why am I a little sceptical even though it being done by the people who made Lord of the Rings with Peter Jackson on board (and he owns some veteran aircraft himself).
I hear reports that the replica Lancs (non flying) have been made by the Chinese. What have they decided to call the dog since the one used in the original film is now non PC.

Just read a spoof story line (where the Americans had done the Dambusting by Geedee on the Aircraft of World War II - Warbird Forums forum which had me giggling :D.

    Peter Jackson « Dambusters Weblog

Speaking on Campbell Live, a New Zealand TV show, on Monday 14 December Peter Jackson confirmed that the remake is going ahead, and that shooting is likely to start sometime next year. He is a busy man, and the bulk of the TV interview was about his newest release, The Lovely Bones, which has just concluded a series of premieres around the globe. Also on his studio’s horizon is The Hobbit, with Ian MacKellen lined up to play a role. But towards the end of the interview he said “if all goes well we’ll be shooting Dambusters in 2010″, and confirmed that ten full size Lancaster models are currently in a warehouse in Wellington.

Re: Nigger - leave it as it is, historically correct, and sod politically correct. The inclusion is paramount as it was also the code word for a successful dam breach eg: P-Popsy mohne dam - nigger; failed bomb - goner

The Dam Busters dog will be renamed for a new version of the classic war movie, it has emerged.
Stephen Fry, who is writing the film's screenplay, said there was "no question in America that you could ever have a dog called the N-word".

Stephen Fry told BBC Radio 5 Live: "It's no good saying that it is the Latin word for black or that it didn't have the meaning that it does now - you just can't go back, which is unfortunate.

I read this earlier on the BBC website however I felt that my rage would have prevented a rational post...

All I will say is that in this PC age even history isn't safe, just watch, they will use B17's too...

History and its written word has now got to be dumbed down by the P C of this age we now live in.
Rational thought went out of my mind when I first read the BBC Website post, now it I am in a calmer frame of mind I wonder like Bradlad what else they will change

I see this from both angles. I tend to agree with Mr. Fry eventhough I hate history being played with. A tough one.
