    6th Armoured Division, 9 Corps
P/219057 Lieutenant Sir Ralph H. ANSTRUTHER, Bt., 2nd Battalion COLDSTREAM GUARDS

On 28th February 1943 No. 3 Company, to which Sir Ralph ANSTRUTHER belongs, was ordered to carry out an attack in conjunction with CHURCHILL tanks in EL AROUSSA and on STEAMROLLER FARM.

During the operation his Platoon came under Machine Gun and mortar fire when in the open. It was necessary to withdraw his Platoon to cover in order to continue the advance round a flank.

Sir Ralph was wounded but refused any attention until he had conducted the withdrawal of his Platoon. This he achieved with great skill and without further loss to his Platoon. The wounded were also got back under his direction.

Signed Officer Commanding 2nd Battalion COLDSTREAM GUARDS

    Granted M.C.
