    This is an amended Post.

    Gunner,

My apologies and thanks to Tony for spotting it. Your title says 209 and the text says 208. So my earlier research looked at 208, not 209.

Using a similar search: "208 Field company" + "war diaries" site:ww2talk.com for their war diaries I found they were in Burma from June 1942! Which explains why Tony (below) refers to 209!

I would suggest you look at all the unit's losses on the CWGC site in case there is an officer and any helpful info.

209 diary on Ancestry, unit was at Deir el Hina.
3/9 = Fierce fighting all night - heavily shelled and mortared
4/9 = 3 ORs killed by shelling, 13 ORs missing, 29 ORs wounded and evacuated.

Sorry Tony my error I searched for 208, Gunner wants 208 or 209. My post is being amended.

If you search online with: "209 Field company" + "war diaries" site:ww2talk.com there are three threads which refer to one unit member's death on 9/9/1942. Perhaps they will help?
