ALLEN was commanding the leading platoon of No. 2 Company. When the rest of the Company was pinned down by heavy close range machine gun fire he led his platoon forward and put out of action a machine gun in the centre of the enemy locality. He himself was the only person to reach the Machine Gun and was wounded whilst doing so. He remained there for 5 hours when the enemy position was finally captured by his Company. Throughout the battle he displayed the greatest courage and determination. Strongly recommended for an Immediate award. Granted M.C.
