Noticed that 4454231 Pte Lyth (Durham Light Infantry) appears on the Roll . He also appears on the missing casualty lists for 1940 The 2nd Durham Light Infantry in France , (Initial `J` rather than `T`) A later casualty list states no longer missing . (I wonder if someone realised later that he was in Canada ?)

    Kyle

Ps Checked the other DLI lads from the other listing none recorded amongst casualties .

Interesting Kyle. I’ve been trying to figure out if indeed they all came (guarding POW’s) on Ettrick??? Dropped the Prisoners off to Canadian’s and then went immediately back home. I know that at the start of the war, Canada formed POW escort Companies to do just that, meet POW ships and then guard them on the Trains to the various POW camps throughout Canada (and later after the US joined, they also picked up Prisoners to take to their POW camps.

And, I’ve not done much studying on this, but I take it the POW Companies (201 and 202) were a “permanent organization”, but the POW Escort unit (CO was the LCol) may have be a more temporary thing to help with a “ship load” of POW’s, and internee’s ??? Unit in this post?
