I just wanted to tell our English cousins across the pond congratulations on having London be selected to host the 2012 Olympics. I attended several events in the 2000 Olympics, and I can assure you it is something not to be missed. It is a wonderful time to show your national pride and "strut your stuff." Maybe I can take my long-desired trip to England then. At least I'll have some time to plan and save!
Best comment was from a French guy: "Well that's an easy 4 billion saved". Right he is. Regards, Marco
Am I alone in seeing the irony of this weeks events? The G8 deciding the fate of millions of starving and impoverished humans and the pure self indulgence in spending billions of pounds in an already rich country for the sake of sport. Funny old world!! Lionboxer

The G8 deciding the fate of millions of starving and impoverished humans If not the G8, what is the other option? and the pure self indulgence in spending billions of pounds in an already rich country for the sake of sport. Funny old world!! There is nothing like sport to bring the countries of the world together. (With exception the despots in some countries who authorise mass murders and starvation of their own people). Sure there are leeches who suck the system dry and travel the world in the name of the AOC but what is the alternative. Is there one? If the rich nations of the world do not distribute the money with "terms" how and where would the money be spent?
Well, I was kind of hoping that New York would get it, so that I could get a PR job with one of the Olympic teams, and thus be able to march in on Opening Day, but I am absolutely thrilled that London, my mother's family's home, has won the Olympics. This is the best thing to happen to Britain since V-E Day. London will host a super Olympics, and a good time will be had by all. But I'd be a lot happier if this news had NOT been followed by that horrible bomb attack on the Underground this morning. I'm worried about my friends and rellies over there...45 dead so far...this is dreadful...it's the Blitz all over again.
Congratulations to London, the best city won. It is a shame that the people of the city had so little time to celebrate the victory.
