Hello all, I am looking forward to get in touch with someone who has documents like WD's, battle plans or after battle reports of the regiments of this Polish division who fought at Kapelsche veer (Netherlands) dec. 1944- jan. 1945. Thanks in advance.
Hi Marius, I've tried finding war diaries for this unit at Kew, without success. The only thing I've found useful, is the book called "The Black Devil's March - A doomed Odyssey - Polish 1st Armoured Division 1939-45" by Evan McGilvray. Cheers - Rob
Hello Rob, Thanks for your quick reply. That does not sound prommissing. Did you search for divisional documentation or regimental? Where could documentation like this be? Destroyed?
The Sikorski Institute might have them. I know they have all the photos from the Unit.. http://www.pism.co.uk/film_archive.htm
I endorse the suggestion of contacting the Sikorski Institution in London. I did so in the quest for information on the role/ deployment of the Division in the early phases of the British Occupation Zone of Germany They were most helpful, the major snag is the majority of documents, for obvious reasons, are in the Polish language, though some have been translated into English
