An elderly veteran friend of mine has been trying to find out about a mutual friends MM won with the battalion as a sniper as part of 53rd Div. There may be a mention of it in the regimental history? He was pte Owen Butcher alive and well and we are trying to get him a replacement. Any info on date or circumstances would be fantastic Thanks Matt
I had a quick look but couldnt find any mention of his MM and in this photograph he does not have one in his `rack` ? Second World War veteran Owen Butcher receives war medal from French president François Hollande Quite a few photos on the web ? None with a MM though? He mentioned he had lost it whist working in his garden...he always wore it seperatly and not with the others as it did not fit on. My concern was I could find no mm mention either...if you find anything let me know as if he did recieve it we would to get a replacement
From Geoffs search engine - Geoff's 1939-47 Search Engine Searching for Butcher - Military medal it shows: Search results for: butcher. records found: 0 TD
TD, Geoff's 1939-47 Search Engine Would only show dead recipients i believe ? It appears his full name is Owen Hubert Butcher if it helps? I tried to find a service number by looking through the Palestine 45-48 records (last medal on his rack) but I couldnt find a mention so that may have been a late application ? No mention on the NA website either. Kyle
I just checked the East Lancashire Regimental History. It has a full list of all MM winners. Owen Butcher is not listed.
