You are welcome, most of the photographs date from late 1945 to 1947 and many are captioned. I am still sorting them out and attempting to identify the named individuals and locations. The original owner appears to have attended the Officer's Training School at Mhow and was commissioned into the King's Regiment as a Second Lieutenant on 19th August 1945.

Immediate post war Army Lists are thin on the ground and I am struggling to find details regarding the many named officers. There are some superb photographs of the 'Auk' inspecting the battalion, but no date or location are mentioned.

Here are the first few of the many photographs of Auchinleck's visit. The captions are those from the reverse of the photographs.

Some cracking photos there Simon. I note they are wearing the much hated khaki headdress (I can't remember the official designation), which even the Warrant Officers seem to be struggling to look smart in. A cross between a frying pan and a cowpat!

There is some information on wikipedia, that might give reason to the headgear featured in some of HWs recent photographs:

They are not Caubeens but the Indian-made version of the General Service cap, made from cotton rather than wool.

    Hi

I’m just revisiting this thread after a long absence, and remain full of admiration for all of the time and dedication everyone here invests in keeping alive the memory of these brave men.

Do you by chance know if the lists mentioned here have any mention of my Uncle, 5885340 George Payne? He was reported missing for a while, before finally being recorded as presumed died of wounds on or around 25th May 1944.

    Best wishes

    Richard

Unfortunately, I have not seen the Searcher Party lists so I do not know what information they have regarding George Payne, if indeed they have any mention of him.

You could send a personal message to Skoyen89 and I am sure that he will be happy to look for you.

Hi and thanks for letting me join.
My uncle who died in1977 was in India with the Kings Liverpool regt, He hardly spoke about the war , and I would like to find out more only I don't have a service number to help , he might have been with the LDV before joining up , he was from the Rice Lane area Liverpool, and he finished as a Sergeant .
His Name is James [ Jimmy ] Jones and at one point run the camp cinema in India , I would like to think he was a Chindit but I realise he may not have been .
Can anyone fill in some details.
    Many Thanks Phil

The only J. Jones that I have in my database is 3780747 J.H. Jones. I cannot confirm that he was James Jones.
