Quick question, 22.1.1944, 1st Battalion York and Lancaster Reg, were they at Cassino or Anzio, does anyone have diaries for that day, cheers Wayne
Wayne, see this thread. Look for crossing of Garigliano map. http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/general/10471-can-anyone-help-me-2nd-battalion-northamptonshire-regiment.html They were in 5th Div. I've posted maps and info there. I've sent off for 5th Div History, should have it soon.
Just reading up on the Garigliano Crossing again. 15th Bde was Divsional Reserve for that operation. On 19th Jan they advanced before dawn and captured the high ground around Point 201. When daylight came they went on to occupy Minturno ridge. The Germans counter-attacked on 21st & 22nd with 94 Div and 90th Panzer Grenadier Div from The Wiltshire Regiment by NCE Kenrick see also Garigliano Crossing
Wayne, Was this info any use to you? I've now received the History of 5th Div. Let me know if you want any more info.
