Hi all, Thanks to the magic of Twitter I am going to be able to include a couple of photos of Archers in the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry in the 1950s in my book. One of them, from a fellow whose grandfather was in the regiment, shows this "CL.I." or "CL.1." marking on the left mud guard of an Archer. For the life of me, I can't identify what this would mean. I looked through my copies of Warpaint vols 3 and 4 but am still clueless. Does anyone have any suggestions? KevinT
I’d guess Class I, but what they actually meant I couldn’t say. Bridge classification (did that change after the war)? regards Tom
Not in a way that would make sense of the "1". The numbers continued to reflect what I think was the maximum tonnage of the class of bridge suitable for the vehicle.
Thanks Kevin! But, for clarity - this is after the Archers were transferred to the RAC. You could have a squadron 'C' but 'CL'...???
