Hello, I am looking for the war diaries of these 2 units for the following dates: 4-5-6-7 september, 44. I want to know who liberates the west side of Saint-Omer. Thanks in advance. Regards, Florent.
Hi Flo All I can offer to this, is to let you know there is a war diary at the National Archives in London. I can copy it for you at 10p per page but I only copy complete files, so you'd get the full 12 months. WO 179/2998 18 Armoured Car Regiment 1944 Jan.- Dec. Cheers Andy
Flo, The unit was redesignated 12th ( Reserve ) Manitoba Dragoons on 7 November 1940; 18th Armoured Car Regiment ( 12 Dragoons ), R.C.A.C, on 1 April 1946. I have the name of a researcher in Ottawa ( compliments of Klambie ) who can provide the files covering the dates that you are after but your fastest option is most likely through Andy. Cheers
Hello, thanks for the info ! I only need this war diary to confirm that this regiment liberated the city of st Omer. I can't pay just for a couple of days sorry Andy... 17th DYRCH can you ask to your friend for the dates of 4 to 7th Sept. 44 please? cheers!
Here are the War Diary entries for 4th to 7th September 1944 for the 18th Canadian Armoured Car Regiment (12th Manitoba Dragoons).
great efforts Dryan. May I add The Manatoba Dragoons were Corps troops of the 2nd Canadian Corp. often under command of the 4th CAD. but certianly always in the vanguard of the 2nd Can Corp.
No better place to post this link to the GSGS 1:100k Maps for NWE (and more) -- online from McMaster University. http://library.mcmaster.ca/maps/ww2/ww2_Fran_Belg_Holl_ndx100k.htm Great fun studying these documents. Thank you dryan67 for your generous heart.
If you have time to do a search you may find reports from the 2nd Canadian corp troops here on actions in this area. http://heritage.canadiana.ca/view/oocihm.lac_mikan_133700?page=1 I think the later part of t-1848 is largely 2nd Corp reports for that period od time. Matt
