He appears to have returned to the Royal Engineers and was attached to 295 Field Company R.E. He was wounded twice, once on D-Day 6.6.44 and 23.7.1944
I agree with Kyle, the medal ribbon looks like the Africa Star.

I have checked John Strawsons "A History of the SAS Regiment" he isnt listed on the original 64 members of `L` Detachment and doesnt feature on the `mission lists` Strawson lists up until Jan/Feb 1943 although some only list officers.Sorry.

OK looks like we need some clarity here

Patino was his mothers maiden name

    Born in 1919 were I believe twins - 1 male & 1 female

England & Wales, Civil Registration Birth Index, 1916-2007
    Name: Angele Garcia
    Registration Date: Jul-Aug-Sep 1919

    Re-registration Year: 1919
    Mother's Maiden Name: Patino

    and our man:
    Name: Angel Garcia
    Registration Date: Jul-Aug-Sep 1919
    Registration district: Liverpool
    Inferred County: Merseyside
    Re-registration Year: 1919
    Mother's Maiden Name: Pattino
    Volume Number: 8b
    Page Number: 123b

unless they are one and the same and someone has messed up the register, especially as Pattino & Patino are spelt differently.

I note in this passenger list that his mother and he live at 139 St James St Liverpool and are noted as being Spanish, reading the document it states their last country of permanent residence was Spain - so some confusion there as there is also only 1 child not 2 as would be expected

He must have been discharged from the Army as a result of his wounds.
He is described as ex-Sergt. A. GARCIA (M.M.R.E.) in the Liverpool Echo 27th December 1944
    it also states M.M.??
The family would have supplied this information for the births column in the Echo

    Text recieved today

"Can’t remember off the top of my head but, My Nan passed either late 2002 or early 2003 , she was know as Audrey rather than Elsie . My Grandad used Patino as it was a Spanish traditional for a male to also take his wife’s maiden name hence Garcia Patino!! Not sure of other info but will pass on what you’ve found and speak to my mum over the next few days for any further info"

    ex-Sergt. A. GARCIA (M.M.R.E.)

If he was awarded an MM and he was in the RE then I would have thought the above would read:
Sergt. A. GARCIA MM RE, I dont understand why -
    a) - There are brackets around it
    b) - There are full stops between each letter

I also dont quite understand the 'ex' - would that mean he was still in the Army but demoted? - now a Cpl??, if he had left the Army surely he would be Mr

Service records hopefully will explain more
