I am looking for their War Diary for September 1944 and any veterans' accounts for any time during the unit's existence. A regimental history would be great, if one exists. FYI: I already know their War Establishment and their place in the 2nd Army.
3 Jun 45 – from 2nd Army Troops to 30th Corps (District from 11 Jun 45) command HQ 52 CRE Works who were in Georgstrasse Neinburg, no location for 174 however they turn up in Hannover command 5 CRE Works (Construction & Maintenance) by 22 Aug 46 Hope this helps
There's potentially four war diaries you may be interested in John. I suspect the last three are lower formations of 174 Company, albeit only one of the Section diaries cover September: WO 171/1571 174 Coy 1944 Jan.- Dec. WO 171/1572 174 Coy 1 Advance Park Section 1944 June, July WO 171/1573 174 Coy 2 Advance Park Section 1944 June, Aug., Sept. WO 171/1574 174 Coy 4 Advance Park Section 1944 June, July Cheers Andy
The diaries are not available online so either visiting the National Archives in person or you could pay someone like me to copy the diaries for you. I charge 10p per page for any complete diary.
