1549771 Charles GILLAM, 4 HAA Regiment RA - Any Info / Photo pls

    This post is not intended to dispute the information on enlistment dates supplied by Travers, but the year of enlistment appears to differ from the year of attestation. I've no doubt there is an explanation for this. Was there a waiting period between attesting and enlisting? The attestation dates for the service numbers listed by Travers are shown below :-

    Hi David

    Hadn't realised that the attestations on FMP & the tracer cards on ancestry contradicted each other. Have revisited the tracer cards & Feb 1940 is what they show. Example below. Screenshot 2025-04-08 at 18.56.57.png

    I wonder if the index entry at FMP for the attestation is giving the date of the first entry in that particular attestation book rather than the actual year of that soldiers attestation.

    Seems to be usual for there to be no tracer card for soldiers transferred out of the R.A.

    Edit: Found another couple where the event date on the FMP index entry is wrong so must be an indexing error, although most seem correct.
