My Dad served in 15th Field Park Company throughout WW2 and although he died in 1961 while I was very small, my Mum always said he'd been a dispatch rider (He was a motorbike mechanic by trade) and as well as being in Germany towards the end of the war, he also spent time in Syria. I've been researching his and his unit's story recently and apart from the mention here of a war diary, WO 169/20207 15 Field Park Company. 1945 Feb., Nov., Dec. I can find no other information anywhere of this posting. We have one or two photos of him in desert dress, a canvas parcel wrapper from home addressed to him as 'M.E.F.' plus souvenirs from Bethlehem, so he was certainly there at some point. If anyone could help with further info, it would be greatly appreciated. His name was Sapper Donald William Bass, No. 2040472.
Hi Daddy Pig From reading your post I would assume that you do not have his service records, these will tell you which units he was with, where and when - if you do not have them I suggest you obtain them to continue your research - Request records of deceased service personnel - GOV.UK I note from Ancestry that his father was also in the Royal Engineers Name: William Edward Bass Gender: Male Birth Date: abt 1890 Enlistment Age: 28 Marriage Date: 28 Sep 1912 Marriage Place: Baphst Church Gulenst Worheitt Document Year: 1918 Residence Place: 48 St Mary St, Woolwich Regimental Number: 279252 Other Regimental Numbers: 29347 Regiment Name: RE Bux Number of Images: 20 Form Title: Short Service Attestation Other Records: Search for 'William Edward Bass' in other WWI collections Family Members: Name Relation to Soldier William Edward Bass Self (Head) Unice Elizabeth Inorfar Spouse Donald William Bass Child Eileen Winifred Bass Child Kenneth Edward Bass Child TD
