This is a really weird one. There was a DLI company patrol 'D' Coy night 6/7 trying to raid strongpoint PLONK in the Italian line to gain unit identification information. It went badly, 8 OR missing and 16 OR and one Off wounded, for no gain. 1 Tp 4 RTR in support, but in the rear, in case enemy tanks appeared, to back up the .

But there's an explicit statement that tanks never went forward, and that while the tanks were engaged by guns, no tanks or crew were lost. There also isn't a report about an officer capture, and there was no arrangement about a tank officer to be with the infantry to liaise that I can see.

Map of PLONK (named SNOWHITE on this map): Making Sense of the Tobruk Breakout

He also isn't on the casualty list of the regiment for November/December 1941

    All the best

Extraordinary, never knew any of this. Speaks well for Carroll, who was also suffering from TB at the time.
