Good evening all, Apologies if this is not the correct thread to drop into - however, I'm looking for some particular info. Pte Frederick Jonathon Brook Bastow, 1/6th East Surrey E Company, killed in action 7th July 1944 - I'd like to know if anyone had any knowledge on E Coys whereabouts over the days leading up to and on 7th July? I have info from a family letter he sent home stating "ATT E COY 5TH BATT No1 IRTD C.M.F 16/4/44" I'd love to know what any of these initials stood for? Thanks!

    FraserNorton.

I have tracked 1/6 Surreys throughout their time in Italy in great detail. Get me through my website www.cassinobattlefields.co.uk and I will happily share what I have for 7 Jul 44 and the supporting mapping.

You will only find his name at Cassino. The Cassino Memorial commemorates those people whose bodies have never been found.

It is likely that he was hit by artillery shell.

    Regards

    Frank

    Fraser.

I have replied. You really need to get a copy of his Service Record. This site tells you how to do it.

Thank so much Dave - super interesting - do you know where I'd be able to find out where any of these location code names referred to? Do maps annotated with these names Darjeeling etc, survive today?
