Hi, apologies if this is the wrong place to post this. I am currently trying to assist a friend with research into 146 Regiment Royal Armoured Corp. I have had a trawl through the National Archives and found the war diaries corresponding to the period we're interested in (Jan 1941 - Jan 1945), however they aren't digitised and for obvious reasons they cannot be ordered at present. I'm just wondering if anyone would happen to have copies of these diaries that they would be willing to share? Any help would be greatly appreciated Many thanks Josh
I am also on the search for these. My grandad was a Quarter Master Sergeant in the 146th company. I have quite a few photographs. It looks like he then ended up in the 294th company - not sure if everyone from the 146th did. I haven't got the diaries for the same 'lockdown' reason. Happy to share any research but I don't have a great deal at present.
Hi, My GF was in 146RAC. I have had a look at the war diaries whilst researching his career but sadly haven't copies of them. id would be happy to share any info I have if anyone is interested. I have a few pictures and a couple of diaries he wrote covering the regiments early days in the east. I would love to see any photos.
I have a small section of 146 RAC's diary covering Jan to March 1943 that I can share. Not much but it might help get you started - unfortunately I only have this part of it, as I was just researching their contribution to the attack at Donbaik on 1/2/43. Here's the Regimental diary for February 43:
This is the report from Captain da Costa, who commanded an eight-tank detachment of 'C' Squadron in support of the failed assault on FDL Chaung at Donbaik by 55 Brigade on 1st February 1943:
This is 'C' Squadron's diary for January 1943, including reports on problems encountered while disembarking the tanks and details of training for the planned amphibious landing at Akyab:
'C' Squadron's diary for February 1943, when half of the squadron went into action at Donbaik. Confusion about losses, also (rather unfairly, and possibly uniquely in a war diary) mentions by name of troopers who had been admitted to hospital with VD:
I think so, but not sure if he was with them at this point. I wonder if we'll see a book about his war published in the near future? Christmas 2020 bestseller in the pipeline, I suspect!
You are probably right there, a stocking filler for Christmas.Sorry I interrupted your flow with the scans.
Joshua, I am going to assume that you have noticed the other thread about 146 RAC that is currently live on the forum. But, just in case here it is: 146 Regiment RAC
