Hello Michael and welcome. If you haven't already got a copy of service records, I'd recommend that you apply for them. They will give you information about when he joined, where he served, training, medals, etc. Do you have a photo of him? It's always nice to put a face to a name. Regards Diane
Dear Michael My father, Charlie Murrell served with 1st Bn Welsh Guards - he kept very detailed and honest private diaries during WW2. Because of a certain artistic ability he was responsible for lettering the temporary crosses of his fallen comrades - his entry for 3 Oct 1944 - 'Today I lettered a cross for Guardsman Harvey of 3 Company. Took greater pains than usual, since his father, who is a sergeant in our 2nd Bn is on the way to see where his son is buried.... so I did my best.. See Dunkirk to the Rhineland - diaries and skethes of Sergeant CS Murrell, Welsh Guards edited by Nick Murrell and published by Pen and Sword Ltd. - p 172 I think this is the only ref to JA Harvey though I do recall references to a Sgt Harvey elsewhere. If I can be of further help please let me know Yours Nick Murrell
Welcome to the forum Nick and thanks for adding that detail and offering help. I do hope that they return and get in contact. I listed your father's book under WG publications. http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/440462-post7.html If you have any more suggestions, I'd be happy to add them.
