    Hello,

I'm looking into a WW1 sailor who had the 14/15 star, I thought that this was for fighting on land, is this the case? his records do not indicate anything other than being on lots of ships?

    many thanks

I thought that he may have been involved in the defence of Antwerp?

The 14/15 star was for any theatre of war, and accoring to wikipedia 283,500 were awarded to the Royal Navy.

I thought that this was for fighting on land,

    thats the 1914 Star, Soren.

The 14/15 Star was the generic award for service between the 4th August 1914 and the 31st December 1915. The 1914 Star was for land actions in France and Belgium (between 4th August and (midnight)22nd November 1914) only.

In other words, those who only fought at sea in 1914 within the 1914 Star issue bracket (ie at the Battle of Coronel)... including even the earliest British casualties (HMS Amphion, 6th August)... and those who fought on land in locations other than France and Belgium (ie. Tsingtsau in september, Togo in August, New Guinea in September, etc) all only qualified for the 1914-15 Star.
