Hi,

This is my first post so please forgive any errors of etiquette.

I'm building a site to commemorate the men of the 13/18th who served in the last war. I started by reading the regimental diaries at national archives and was intending to visit the regimental museum hoping to examine the other diaries not held at the NA. To my horror I discovered the museum has shut and will reopen at some point in the future in Newcastle having been merged in with 15/19th. Options for Change in-bloody-deed.

Anyway it looks like I'll have to wait until next year to make the trip but in the meantime I thought I'd ask here in case anyone can help.

Specifically I'm trying to find the names of the crew in Captain Denny's tank which sank after being rammed by an LCT on the run in. His account in the diaries seems to my mind a little casual;

"Although the crew were wearing ATEA and ‘Mae Wests’ they never appeared again, as I did not see them during the 30 mins I was in the water."

but I might be being a little oversensitive.

The tank was from 'A' sqn. and I believe they are commentated on the Bayeux memorial but I would be grateful if anyone has any information on the 'A' Sqn. crews or indeed any other crewing information from the other squadrons.

Many thanks.

It might be worth checking out the new 'concentration' information under individuals' CWGC entries as some members have found sub-unit information in there.

Can't check this at the moment, but I think it's the or a Light Dragoons website that has copies of regimental journals online. I don't know how far they go back, but there may becsom wartime articles in later issues.

Thanks Idler, I've checked the LD's online content but it doesn't go deep enough yet.

Have you checked to see if there's a WO 361 missing men file at Kew?

Hi Drew, thanks for that. I've tried an online search before making the trip but can't find any obvious results that cover the regiment over the 6th June.

Sorry for the delay:

WO 361/533 North West Europe: 13th/18th Hussars, Royal Armoured Corps; missing personnel.

I suspect it may contain details more around the end of 1944 and beginning of 1945 but you never know unless you look.

Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy, I read this file and very helpfully found a return for some missing soldiers from 6th June filed in September They weren't the missing from Captain Denny's tank but nevertheless the file was enormously helpful. My next move I think is to try to find where the squadron records for 1944 are being kept.
